Google is using this drone to test for delivering goods

Google is testing this drone for delivering goods bought online–similar to efforts by internet retail giant Amazon.com

“Self-flying vehicles could open up entirely new approaches to moving goods,” California-based Google said of the project.

“Throughout history, major changes in how we move goods from place to place have led to new opportunities for economic growth and generally made consumers’ lives easier.”

Google’s project, named “Project Wing,” began flights this month, testing the delivery of candy water medicine, dog treats and other goods.

The recepients were two farmers in Queensland, Australia.

Drone tests are hampered in the US by FAA regulations. Amazon has stated that they are testing indoors because of this.

Amazon has said that its plan is to provide delivery of some online goods within 30 minutes of ordering–somewhat better than “one day” delivery.
